Sometimes the wrong piece of furniture can make a space feel cramped and awkward. Here are some tips for choosing the right furniture for your home!
Any home can be arranged to have good flow… Sometimes the wrong piece of furniture can make a space feel cramped and awkward. Here are some tips for choosing the right furniture for your home!
CREATE PLEASING VISUALS FOR AN OPEN FLOORPLAN
If your home has an open floorplan for the kitchen, dining room, living room, or any of the above, it’s important not to cut off line-of-site between the rooms. Avoid placing tall pieces of furniture in the space between rooms, instead putting high-back sofas and chairs on the outskirts or up against a wall. Low end tables and islands are also your friend. Then finish the look by incorporating area rugs to divide the living room from the dining room to make each one feel cozy and inviting.
ALTERNATIVE COFFEE TABLES
Sometimes a large coffee table can make it a tight squeeze in your living room or family room. If that’s the case, we have some great suggestions! For a traditional style: look for a small, round coffee table. This will give you lots of table surface but still allow you to move around the room easily without bumping into hard corners. You can also consider an upholstered ottoman that can function as both a footrest and table (just add a tray for a hard surface)! For extra storage, consider a storage ottoman. These pieces are perfect for keeping blankets, remotes, games, and toys neat and tidy.
REPLACE MULTIPLE SEATS WITH ONE SECTIONAL
Even though it seems counter-intuitive to place a large piece of furniture in a small room, a sectional is actually a great option! By using one piece of furniture to offer lots of seating options, you are actually able to maximize the number of seats in a room. While a sofa, loveseat, and chairs provide lots of seating options, they aren’t always the best choice for good traffic flow. A sectional takes up less space overall, and there are lots of style options to choose from! Reclining sectionals are always popular, and chaise sectionals are great because they don’t impede visuals (as mentioned above).
CHOOSE A BED WITH STORAGE
We all need extra storage in the bedroom to organize clothing, bedding, blankets, and more! But if you don’t have enough room for a dresser or two, clutter can start to pile up fast! A storage bed can help by providing drawers under the mattress so you can easily store and access your belongings without taking up extra floorspace. The best way to create a furniture layout with good flow is to maximize the productivity of each piece of furniture, and a storage bed is a great way to do that!
